Program Description

A successful legislative strategy can help to:

  • Educate legislators about the value and needs of community mediation.
  • Provide centers with resourceful advocates.
  • Make center services known to decision-makers who could likely use them.
  • Attain funding for centers.

During this webinar, Lorig Charkoudian (Executive Director of  Community Mediation Maryland) and Mary Hancock (Legislative Chair for Resolution Washington) will share information on the legislative strategies used to advance community mediation in their states.  They will outline the "whys" and "hows" of their legislative strategies and refer to information available on  NAFCM's Legislative Toolkit. Their presentations will be followed by a 30 minute question and answer period.

This webinar relates to the following NAFCM Hallmarks
  • Hallmark #8 - Initiating, facilitating and educating for collaborative community relationships to affect positive systemic change.
  • Hallmark #9 - Engaging in public awareness and educational activities about the values and practices of mediation
