Community Mediation Training

 

The 32-hour course meets on:

  • Thursday, September 22, 6 p.m. - 9 p.m.,
  • Saturday, September 24, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.,
  • Sunday, September 25, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.,
  • Thursday, September 29, 6 p.m. - 9 p.m.,
  • Saturday, October 1, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.,
  • Sunday, October 2, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

In this highly-interactive course, you will gain skills to:

  • Address conflicts more effectively at home/work
  • Work with diverse cultures and culturally identify
  • Maintain impartiality in disputes and recognize bias
  • Listen so others are more willing to speak to you
  • Detect and prevent conflicts in early stages
  • Handle difficult behaviors and situations
  • Identify and deal with different conflict styles

Participants will gain the knowledge, techniques and skills needed to handle a broad range of disputes, communicate effectively and be better prepared to deal with conflicts that arise at home or at work.

Training will focus on such cases as: disputing neighbors; family conflict; workplace issues; relationship conflicts; problem arising in landlord/tenant relationships; property division; customer/merchant complaints; real estate disagreements; and other community and commercial disputes.

Trainees will practice acquired skills through coached role plays and experiential activities.

Upon satisfactory completion, students will receive a Certificate of Completion. This course follows the California Dispute Resolution Act (DRPA) approved curriculum.

Successful completion of training is the first step to becoming a community mediator with our program. We are the only mediation program that provides hands-on mediation experience after the training.
