Engaging with Trauma Successfully

Tuesday, September 13, 2016, 4-7pm

Location: Dispute Resolution Center of King County, Good Shepherd Center, Room 202

Workshop Description:

Providing Trauma Informed Interpersonal Engagement Services
This workshop will build your knowledge of trauma and its impacts along with your understanding of important practices that support successful engagement. Goals of the workshop include: increasing your awareness of the possible role of trauma history and how that may show up in the people you work with; and developing perspectives and tools that will assist you in your efforts in working with people who may have significant trauma history.

The workshop will reference and review information shared in the previous DRC session on PTSD by Scott Michael, PhD and broaden the scope of that discussion looking to the wider trauma continuum. This interactive session will expand upon the framework and definition of what is trauma; the differences inherent between traumatic and traumatized; and review of some of the principal “interventions” used to support people impacted by high degrees of trauma. Finally we will cover steps important to take, along with a functional framework, for working with people with significant trauma history.

This three hour workshop will begin with your questions that will help guide the content being covered. The outcome goal for this program is to, within its scope, provide concrete value and steps for your work. Registration will be limited given the interactive nature of this workshop.
