NAFCM Announces Joel Bogen, Jefferson County Mediation Services of Golden, CO as the Recipient of NAFCM’s “Outstanding Volunteer Award” for Q3 2015

Cumming, GA (June 17, 2015) —NAFCM is proud to announce Joel Bogen as our NAFCM Outstanding Volunteer Award Winner for Q3 2015.  The nomination process allowed community mediation centers from across the country to nominate outstanding volunteers. NAFCM received many dynamic nominations for this quarterly award, which recognizes the significant work volunteers provide to create the positive impacts of community mediation across the country.

As an integral part of the JCMS special program that involves mediation in protection order court, Joel has successfully managed to provide services that help to establish conditions that may be attached to protection orders. Joel has helped participants achieve agreement on things such as: pre-arrange a time for a civil assist to remove belongings from an apartment, agree to a schedule to use the gym where both sides have a membership, set up a parenting time schedule to use until such time as a dissolution of marriage action can be filed. These cases require a rare mix of empathy and awareness, so that victims are not re-victimized and yet movement is made to resolve practical problems. In addition to mediating many cases, Joel has been a great mentor to new mediators. He has done presentation on writing agreements in protection order cases, and spent considerable time debriefing with new mediators after mediation sessions. Described as versatile, reflective and ethical, Joel mediates cases in both English and Spanish, and mediation participants have repeatedly given him high praise.

Mark Loye, Executive Director of JCMS states: “I have known Joel since he joined our program in June, 2007. He immediately became an irreplaceable cog in the Mediation Services machine. His willingness to accept nearly any type of case, often at short notice, is very high on any program director’s wish list. Joel became one of my “go-to people” faster than almost anyone in the now 20+ year history of Jefferson County Mediation Services. I am proud to direct a community mediation program with volunteers like Joel involved.”

NAFCM congratulates Mr. Bogen on the great work he has done for his community and is proud to recognize him as our Volunteer of the Quarter.
