The Association for Conflict Resolution (ACR) is hosting a unique opportunity to participate in an exciting day of learning and sharing at Community Mediation Baltimore (CMB). This all day session will take place at the storefront neighborhood center that Community Mediation Baltimore has called home for over 20 years. This is the location where many creative grassroots social change ideas have been born, including the nationally recognized re-entry mediation.
Details of the day's events:
Attendees will gather in the hotel lobby at 8:15 and leave at 8:30. They will travel in a group on a public bus, with hosts from Baltimore serving as guides. We'll be catching the number 8 bus labeled either "CROMWELL BRIDGE, TOWSON, or LUTHERVILLE" from the corner of Baltimore and Charles streets, one half block East of the hotel. The bus costs $4 for an all-day pass or $3.40 for two individual trips. The trip is between 20-25 minutes. Please bring $4 in cash for the bus.
Once at the center, Community Mediation Day will include the interesting sessions you have come to know and love from the Community Section. Sessions will include:
- Volunteer Mediators Who Really Reflect the Diversity of the Community. We will discuss strategies and hear from volunteer mediators about what inspires them and keeps them coming back for more
Creative Responses to Social Problems: Reviewing the development of Re-entry Mediation, Addiction Recovery Mediation, Police
- Community Dialogue, Truancy Mediation, and others and discussing what's next. Finding where #RelationshipsMatter and bringing mediation to those challenges
- Grassroots Outreach: Simple and not-so-simple strategies to stay connected to real every-day people, even while developing and maintaining major significant partnerships with local and state agencies.
- Community Mediation and the Baltimore Uprising: Mediators and staff from CMB will discuss their strategies to reach out and engage community and police immediately after and in the many months since the Baltimore Uprising. We will discuss applicability to other parts of the country.
Lunch will be catered by Terra Cafe, a small locally owned business. The cost of lunch will be $10/person. Please bring cash or a check for lunch.
Attendees will take the bus back to the hotel together and should be back between 5:30 and 6. If anyone wishes to travel on their own during the day, the address is 3333 Greenmount Ave., Baltimore, 21218. The phone number is 410-467-9165.
