Restorative Justice Practices: Promoting Peace & Building Community

September 13 - 14, 2018; 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Restorative Justice (RJ) Practices are the various approaches to address and repair the damaging effects of an offense on individuals and their community. RJ focuses on the principle that offenses violate people and not just laws. RJ practices foster healing between offenders, victims, and their community by bringing the needs of those who had been harmed to the forefront; acknowledging that an offense affects the community; and being mindful that the person who committed the offense is a member of the community. Through face-to-face dialogues, relevant community service, and constructive behavioral development, RJ practices not only promote responsibility and healing after harm, but strengthen bonds between individuals, families, and their community.
