The non-profit Ku‘ikahi Mediation Center hosts a free talk on as part of their “Finding Solutions, Growing Peace” Brown Bag Lunch Series. Talks are Third Thursdays from 12 noon to 1 pm in the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney at 655 Kilauea Avenue in Hilo.

TOPIC Conflict Resolution for Kids!

SPEAKER Majidah Lebarre Program Coordinator, Ku‘ikahi Mediation Center

“If you interact or work with children, you can learn simple tools to help them express their feelings and resolve disputes,” says Majidah. “We’ll focus on concepts and socio-emotional components of conflict prevention and resolution for kids.” In this interactive talk, understand what conflict is and develop specific problem-solving skills such as perspective taking, empathy, and “I” statements for children and adults. 

 

 

Majidah Lebarre earned her B.A. in Political Science from Washington State University and M.A. in International Relations from the University of Sussex in England. She has assisted The National Democratic Institute of Nepal, Mercy Corps, and American Red Cross in their missions. Majidah is the Program Coordinator at Ku‘ikahi Mediation Center, where she trains youth in peer mediation and conflict resolution. She is also a professionally trained mediator.

 

Ku‘ikahi's Brown Bag Lunch Series is free and open to the public.  Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lunch, enjoy an informal and educational talk-story session, and meet others interested in "Finding Solutions, Growing Peace."
