Calling all Restorative and Community Justice Practitioners

The River Phoenix Center for Peacebuilding (RPCP) is excited to launch the Neighborhood Justice Webinar Series. This six month online training is designed to equip restorative and community justice practitioners with context and tools that will allow them to partner with isolated neighborhoods to empower and engage neighbors who are directly impacted by injustice.

Webinar 1: The Historical Impact of a racialized Justice System

Co Presenter: Esi Mathis

Join us as we kick off the webinar series with an in depth look at the formation of the American criminal justice system and its impact on people of color and poor people. The criminal justice system incarcerates more than 2 million people annually. Women are the fastest growing incarcerated population and children are being charged and sentenced as adults. Statistics show that 1 in 3 black men are guaranteed to be incarcerated. This session is designed to give historical context of the relationship between race and the criminal justice system as well as inform us of the present day impact as we strive to empower those involved and vulnerable to the criminal justice system.
