Watch Your Language!  It Could Change Your Attitude

with Jo Hittner, Ph.D.

Thursday, November 21, 2019
12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Free (walk-ins welcome)
Office of the Prosecuting Attorney
655 Kilauea Avenue, Hilo, HI 96720

"Contemptuous language is all around us, and it's easy to respond in a like manner," says Jo.  "While disagreements are necessary for progress, listening and speaking respectfully is challenging when there is conflict.  Our attitude toward the speaker affects many of our responses."  In this talk, explore ways to use your language to effectively listen to others with an attitude of openness to differences.

Jo Hittner, Ph.D. has worked in the counseling/psychology field for nearly 40 years.  She holds a doctorate in counseling from University of North Dakota, Grand Forks and teaches as adjunct faculty at Winona State University, Minnesota during the summers.  Semi-retired, Jo is a professionally trained volunteer mediator at Ku'ikahi Mediation Center.  Language and its effects are at the core of her beliefs in making the world a more peaceful place.

Ku‘ikahi's Brown Bag Lunch Series is free and open to the public.  Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lunch, enjoy an informal and educational talk-story session, and meet others interested in "Finding Solutions, Growing Peace."
