This month’s speaker is Karishma Kamath on the topic “Recognizing Privilege: For Greater Peace in Our Communities.”

“Privilege allows us to feel at home in the world and escape dangers that others may suffer,” says Kamath.  “These benefits may be taken for granted because they are not seen and often times attributed to merit rather than association with a dominant group.”

In this talk, discover what privilege looks like and how acknowledgement of our privileges can contribute to making our communities more stable and peaceful.

Karishma Kamath is the Director of Student Conduct and CARE Team Coordinator at the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo.  With 12 years of experience in higher education and credentials as a sexual assault educator, prevention specialist, advocate, and facilitator of uncomfortable conversations, she is inspired by a sense of equity and empowerment for others to do better when they know better.  Kamath is a professionally trained volunteer mediator at Ku‘ikahi.

Ku‘ikahi's Brown Bag Lunch Series is free and open to the public.  Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lunch, enjoy an informal and educational talk-story session, and meet others interested in "Finding Solutions, Growing Peace."
