Introduction to Mediation is a four-day training session offering 30-hours of instruction in the process of mediation, the use of negotiation, and how to apply advanced communication skills to help people resolve their differences. Participants will explore the skill of separating the problem from the person and the problem from individuals' positions and places the focus on the problem instead of the person(s).

The training will examine a variety of conflict resolutions and preventive techniques through an interactive process designed to engage multiple learning styles - lectures, group discussion, hands-on exercises, role-play and mediation simulation practices.

Whether you want to improve your communication skills, become a volunteer mediator, or a private mediator, this training will give you the tools you need to start managing conflict in a peaceful, productive and practical way.

Register today; space is limited.  Confirmation of training will be sent via email no later than Friday, Septermber 25, 2020;   A minimum of 6 participants is required.

*Disclaimer: Completion of this training course does not result in certification in mediation nor does it provide an expectation of work or income from mediation. Court Certification is only available for SC Bar members in good standing and the completion of the approved courses. Non-attorneys can not be "certified" as mediators for the courts.

Food:  Lunches will be provided ( please provide for your own special needs).  Light snacks and water will be available throughout.

How can mediation skills help you? Learn to manage and resolve conflict. Communicate more effectively at home, work, school and in the community. Improve interpersonal and professional communication. Become a better negotiator and problem-solver. Increase your marketability. Contribute to conflict resolution in our community.

Those who are interested in serving as an MMC volunteer mediator need to complete an additional 10 hours of "lab" observation and co-mediation.  An MMC volunteer mediator application is available after the classroom portion.

Training is led by MMC's  Executive Director, Kabrina Bass., and a cast of guest presenters.
