DCI Women's Peer Mediation Program

As part of the National Association for Community Mediation (NAFCM)'s 25th anniversary theme for the month of March, "Elevating and Celebrating All Voices," and in honor of International Women's Day, we are pleased to highlight the work of the peer mediators we work with at the Dayton Correctional Institution with the public release of this video about the women's peer mediation program.

Dayton Mediation Center Coordinator, Michelle Zaremba, highlights the program's uniqueness, explaining "These women really are pioneers in a sense because this is the first program in the State of Ohio where inmates are doing conflict intervention on their own instead of relying on others to address it. To celebrate Women’s Day, we would like to recognize the peer mediators of DCI who act as peace makers within their community by providing peer mediation services.”

The program is funded in part through an annual fundraiser put on by Dayton Mediation Center staff and volunteers called "Eat, Create, and Meditate," which features an evening of food, art, and yoga. This year the fundraiser will take place on Friday, September 13, and early-bird tickets are already available online at
