Dear NAFCM Family,

NAFCM is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2019! To commemorate this milestone, we have released a 25th Anniversary Celebration Handbook where we highlight monthly themes that reflect the breadth of community mediation and provide inspiration for actions you can take in your community.

In July, the theme we will be focusing on Promoting Peacebuilding Work Through Social Media.

Over a short period of time, social media has dramatically transformed the way people communicate with one another, with varied effects. On one hand, social media has provided another venue for conflict to emerge, for misunderstandings to arise, and for realities to be distorted. However, social media has also provided the connections that allow distant loved ones to follow our daily successes and challenges, for organizations to reach an audience that would have otherwise been unreachable, and for movements to coalesce and change the world.

This month we would like to know how you use social media to help make the world a more peaceful place by letting us know:

·    What do you share, and how do you share it?

·    How does social media allow you to foster connections to your community?

·    What lessons or skills have you learned and developed that have proven to be effective?

·    What have been the greatest benefits you’ve seen from investing in social media?

Please share with us any experiences you have with social media so that we can spread your wisdom throughout our NAFCM community. We invite you to write to Lori at ldieckman@nafcm.org. We encourage pictures as well. Let us let the world know you!

And as always, we thank you for continuing to be part of the NAFCM family and your work to create a fairer and more equitable world through engagement!

Warm regards,

NAFCM Impact and Values Committee
