NAFCM is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2019! To commemorate this milestone, we have released a 25th Anniversary Celebration Handbook where we highlight monthly themes that reflect the breadth of community mediation and provide inspiration for actions you can take in your community. Thank you for sharing with us the exciting work you are doing to date, please keep those pictures and stories coming by sending them to Lori at

In November, the theme is "Increasing Community Representation Through Volunteers," with the goal of showcasing volunteers via social and traditional media. As you highlight your volunteers, please include a link to NAFCM social media, so we can share it with the larger community.

Our volunteers are the heart and soul of Community Mediation Centers. Most, if not all, of our centers have more volunteers than paid staff. In the 25th Celebration Handbook there are multiple suggestions to highlight the profile of and need for volunteers.

Our volunteers are active voices to our service, our mission, and our commitment. In the month of November, make the voice of Community Mediation Centers heard in your community by completing at least two of the suggested action steps.

We recommend:

"Utilizing current volunteers to advocate on our behalf. Volunteers are the greatest salesforce any organization can have to promote the work of the agency as they are committed to the cause and believe in the organization."

"Invite staff, board members and Executive Directors to make personal appearances in the community; school meetings, senior centers, colleges/universities, and local Chamber of Commerce events as places for the voice of Community mediation to be heard and inspire others to become involved and volunteer."

November is the month of Thanksgiving. Let's demonstrate our thankfulness with our volunteers, our community, and our Community Mediation Centers. #NAFCMmorethan

Yours in peace,

The NAFCM Strategic Partnerships & Resource Development Committee
