Subject: Opportunity for Connection

Dear NAFCM Family,

We recognize the evolving nature of the Coronavirus outbreak and how fear and the impact of preventative measures are testing the resiliency of our communities.  While we are not necessarily physicians, we believe that our community centers can play an equally vital role.

As community mediators, we are called to take leadership in offering positive and creative opportunities to connect in ways that are mindful and safe. Taking reasonable precautions does not, for example, mean demonizing others.  How do we be the leaders to maintain connections in our diverse communities and walk as one with each other not from each other?

Daily, more and more social and professional events are being cancelled which means finding alternative ways to connect is especially important.  We have the ability to act and combat the potential lethalness of loneliness. While promoting responsible behavior, we can also refuse to isolate ourselves and instead find other ways to maintain our sense of hope, curiosity, grace and patience.

We encourage you (while washing your hands for 20 seconds) to take a breath and think what you could be doing to connect in different ways. We offer to post on our Twitter and Facebook accounts your creative suggestions and stories on how you are connecting.

Let us spread positivity and may our kindness be tangible to all those who depend on us for leadership as we walk through this unknown together. While we may not be able to physically be together, we can still stay connected.

We, as the NAFCM family, are in this together.  If talking about your current situation would be a benefit for you or your center, please do not hesitate to reach out to us at any time.

Thank you and stay safe.

Warm regards,

D.G.
