D.G. Mawn

DG has served NAFCM in several roles, first as a member of the Board of the Directors (2012-2014) then as the JAMS Foundation Mini-Grant Program Manager (2014-2016), and currently serves NAFCM as the President of the membership association.

He co-developed the Cultural Intuitiveness process and provides consultation and coaching to state, public and community-based organizations on human services/system development and effectiveness, leadership development, strategic planning and communication, cultural intuitiveness, sustainability and evaluation.

DG Mawn is an attorney licensed in Illinois and Kentucky.He received his mediation training in 2000.

D.G. has worked in the local, state and federal level health systems interweaving his background in anthropology, religion and law in a manner that connects well within the political setting as well as the community setting. Through-out his career he has sought to appreciate the culture and systems of community and follow empathetic processes that strengthen the both the individual and the system in order to facilitate the creation of sustainable positive impacts.


Brennan Frazier

Brennan Frazier graduated from The Ohio State University in 2012 with a B.A. in Political Science and History. After graduation, he worked to develop mediation programs for under-served communities through an AmeriCorps VISTA partnership with Mediation Matters in Albany, NY, where he presently works as a Program Coordinator.


Lori Dieckman

Lori Dieckman is a professionally trained mediator, conflict coach, and Human Resources professional. Lori has over 20 years of experience helping others to address and resolve conflict in a safe, confidential and non-judgmental setting. In addition to her work for NAFCM, Lori is involved with several local court and community mediation programs in Colorado. Lori holds a BA in Psychology from the University of Northern Iowa. .


Felicia Washington

Felicia has degrees in International Affairs from Case Western Reserve University and American University. She is currently a M.S. student at George Mason's School for Conflict Analysis and Resolution. She desires to learn more of the practitioner side of conflict resolution through working with community mediation centers and understanding how they resolve multiple levels of conflict. Using her research background and writing/editing skills, she looks forward to supporting the work on the Update of the State of Community Mediation survey and report to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the National Association for Community Mediation.



Renata Valree
Board Term: 2013-2019

Renata Valree is CEO and Executive Director of Ambassadors of Peace, Conflict Coaching and Consulting Group and former Program Director for the Office of the Los Angeles City Attorney, award winning Dispute Resolution Program.

Renata earned dual Masters Degree's in Public Administration and Negotiation, Conflict and Peacebuilding. She is a Magna and Summa Cum Laude graduate and has practiced mediation for over 25 years. She has received numerous awards and accolades for her work in the field of alternative dispute resolution and community mediation.



Jed Peace Friedland
Board Term: 2017-2020


Jed Peace Friedland is an attorney, mediator/family mediator, conflict coach, law school professor, conflict specialist, mentor and member of the Monterey County Superior Court panel of Court Directed Mediators. He is Vice-Chair of NAFCM, and Chair of its Membership Enhancement Committee. Jed is the curriculum designer and instructor of the 32 hour Core Mediation Certification Training offered at Monterey College of Law and Kern County College of Law, and he developed a wide variety of advanced mediation, facilitation and communication programs offered to the public and private sector.. Jed has presented nationally on podcasts for the Society of Emotional Intelligence (SoEI), as a speaker/mediation modeler at the annual convention for the Professional Fiduciary Association of California (PFAC), and on radio shows and at bar association and service organization events. He has authored articles on community mediation for ACResolution magazine and for JAMS. Jed has litigated a wide variety of complex cases for 3 decades and has participated as an advocate in hundreds of evaluative mediations as well as presiding as mediator over 100 mediations. Jed currently acts “Of Counsel” for Fischer/Kerney LLP in construction defect litigation.


Cassie Lively
Board Term: 2018-2021

Cassandra Lively, Ph.D. is the Executive Director of the Center for Conflict Resolution. Cassie has been on staff at CCR since 2005 in a variety of roles, and now leads the organization’s staff of 12 and dedicated group of more than 180 volunteers in providing the highest quality mediation services and training to the Chicagoland area. During her time at CCR, Cassie has mediated over 350 cases and assisted in the training of more than 250 new mediators. Cassie serves as a Tri-Chair for the Association for Conflict Resolution’s Community Mediation and Restorative Practices Section, and as a Board Member and Treasurer for the National Association for Community Mediation (NAFCM). She earned a Ph.D. in Sociology from Loyola University Chicago in 2010 with a focus in work, family and gender.


Cherise Hairston
Board Term: 2016-2021

Cherise Hairston began her career in the field of community mediation in 1996 with formal study of conflict resolution which led to her earning a MA in Conflict Resolution at Antioch University McGregor in 1998. Since 1999, she has been a team member at the Dayton Mediation Center and serves as its Volunteer and Community Education/Outreach Coordinator. She has been a Certified Transformative Mediator with the Institute for the Study of Conflict Transformation, Inc. since 2001. Cherise is a conflict management trainer, consultant, and an adjunct professor at Antioch University Midwest (Yellow Springs, OH) in the graduate programs in Conflict Analysis and Resolution and Management and Change Leadership.

Sara Campos
Board Term: 2018-2020

Sara Campos is the Associate Director of The Center for Conflict Resolution in Los Angeles, which is both a community mediation center and clinical program. She is a certified bilingual (English/Spanish) mediator, an adjunct professor of law and a full-time staff member. She received her bachelor's degree in Political Science from the University of California, Los Angeles and her Juris Doctor from Loyola Law School, Los Angeles.

Originally trained at The CCR as a law student mediator, The CCR recruited her to become part of the regular staff. Since that time she has become the associate director supervising staff, students as well as providing community outreach, support and training. Ms. Campos, along with another colleague, received the 2005 and 2012 Case of the Year Award from the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors.

She has participated in numerous mediation panels including the Los Angeles Superior Court Panel, the Second Appellate District Court Panel, and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. In addition to her mediating and mentoring, she also teaches Mediation Advocacy at Loyola Law School.



LaDessa Croucher
Board Term: 2013-2019


LaDessa Croucher is the current Senior Director of Volunteers of America Western Washington Dispute Resolution Center (VOA-DRC). She is a Professionally Certified Mediator and Ombudsman. LaDessa first discovered mediation while perusing her undergraduate in Communication Studies from The University of Montana in Missoula. Inspired by William Wilmot and Art Lusse to bring mediation into community systems, LaDessa resisted gainful employment for many years. Instead traveled to Hawaii where her sister supported her "starving artist" phase of mediating with the Mediation Center of the Pacific in Honolulu, HI. She then secured an AmeriCorps VISTA position with VOA-DRC in Everett, WA in 2004. LaDessa has spent the last 12 years exploring with key stakeholders how mediation can be utilized in community systems to address a variety of social challenges including homelessness and supporting community policing.



Jeanne Zimmer
Board Term: 2015-2021

Jeanne Felicity Zimmer served as the Executive Director of the Dispute Resolution Center (DRC), the oldest community mediation center in Minnesota, for almost 17 years. She has over 30 years of experience in the not-for-profit sector, including a Masters of Nonprofit Organizations from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, and certificates in fundraising and gerontology. Jeanne has a deep understanding of the needs of CMCs and is committed to elevating the field of community mediation. Her interests include program evaluation and theory, and the intersection of conflict management and evaluation practice.


Scott Martin
Board Term: 2018-2021


Scott believes that local community mediation centers are uniquely qualified and positioned to offer possibilities for their own communities to resolve conflicts, prevent future violence, and support prosperity by empowering community members to achieve greater communication and connectivity. NAFCM serves these centers by providing a framework for development, execution, and reflection on the effectiveness of programs to achieve these goals. Scott believes that NAFCM should strive to provide support that is innovative and effective. He brings both the pragmatic thinking and the ridiculous optimism needed to be successful.


Sharon Eckstein
Board Term: 2018-2021


Sharon believes that NAFCM not only serves to strengthen local community mediation centers and community mediators by providing empowering support, but also serves as a "matchmaker" that can create connections between members who are working to meet similar needs or creating new programs to foster community transformation. She also believe that local efforts gain more traction and become more successful when a national organization acts as a resource. Sharon enjoys building connections and welcomes the opportunity to help make the connections that will enable members to work together to advance shared goals.


Mindy Burrell
Board Term: 2018-2021


Mindy is committed to raising the profile of community mediation so that more people are aware of both the concept and process of community mediation as a means of resolving disputes before entering the court system. For Mindy, community mediation also means engaging in the continual process of building community mediators' and centers' skills, attitudes, and knowledge so that their work will have ever more impact. This also means attracting the financial resources to support the development and expansion of community mediation.


Christopher Mendez
Board Term: 2018-2021


Through his work as a community organizer in South Florida and for nationally-based Islamic organizations (e.g., Muslim Students Association, Muslim American Society, Muslim Legal Defense, and Project Downtown), Chris developed a strong network of individuals who seek to empower local communities through service. Chris is motivated to strengthen national connections in order to meet the needs of local communities.
